The Maintenance Helper will be responsible for general repairs and/or rebuilding of production equipment, associated support equipment, and minor repairs to the physical building itself. Must identify and use the proper inventory stockpiled for repair purposes and be familiar with all pertinent construction code regulations.  Also involves the construction and repair of jigs and fixtures and coils used in the plant either for general production or experimental purposes.

MINIMUM POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: One to three years’ experience in heat treating or related field.
  • Language Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods, bend, and stoop and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have good vision, corrected/uncorrected, for precise reading of equipment.
  • Must have experience with welding, cutting, brazing, etc., and working knowledge of electricity.
  • Must have general knowledge of hydraulics and furnaces and be able to read and interpret blueprints
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, be detail oriented and possess manual dexterity.
  • Work Environment: May be exposed to heat, noise, humidity, fumes.
  • Must be able to work overtime, any shift and any day of the week.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain status of certified forklift operator.
  • Be willing to participate in technical training courses requested or recommended by the Company.
  • Desired Experience/Skills: Have a previous heavy machinery maintenance experience, a good general knowledge of firefighting procedures and possess a junior welder/fitter/gas ticket certified by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs all general maintenance duties including painting, cleaning, fixture/tooling fabrication, installing belts, bearings, chains, etc.
  • Responsible for maintaining plant equipment, including preventative maintenance and new equipment installation.
  • Responsible for building maintenance as needed/required/directed.
  • Performs instrument calibration and temperature surveys.
  • Brings any unusual problem or irregularity to his/her supervisor.
  • Promotes and practices safety and good housekeeping procedures.
  • Become generally familiar with all types of furnaces, their construction and operation.
  • Become thoroughly familiar with plant utilities (gas, water, hydro, combustible atmospheres, etc.) and their critical shutoff and control mechanisms.
  • Be thoroughly familiar with all types of hand or automated tools available in the maintenance department.
  • Become generally familiar with the mechanical properties of various types of stainless and alloy steels for jigging and fixturing purposes.
  • Performs all other assigned duties.
